Why sleep is so important to your health

Why sleep is so important to your health Having good quality sleep is important to your wellbeing. Sleep plays a vital role in restoring and healing the body, so your health takes a hit when you aren’t sleeping well.
If you’re suffering from sleep problems or feeling tired during the day it’s important to assess the quality of the mattress you’re sleeping on. One of the key questions you need to ask is – is this bed right for me? There is no point struggling with a mattress that is too old or just not suited to what you need. The size of your mattress plays a key role in getting good quality sleep.

What mattress size do I need?

There are a few key considerations when thinking about mattress sizes;

•    Who the bed is for, guests, kids, yourself or yourself and a partner?
•    The size of the person/people who will be sharing it
•    Do you have kids or pets who like to spend time in bed with you?

Sleeping as a couple - size does matter

With many bed sizes to choose from it can be hard to know where to start, but finding the right mattress size for your needs can be one of the best investments for your health and wellbeing as a couple.

As a general rule, to get the best sleep a couple needs to have a Queen size mattress or bigger. This helps to avoid being disturbed by your partner’s movements during the night. If one of you is particularly tall or broad, a larger mattress such as a Super King is a must.

When choosing a mattress to feel comfortable in, it’s important to remember that a King is the size of two Single mattresses. So if you’re a couple sleeping in anything smaller than a King, you’ve each sleeping in a smaller space than a child has in a single bed!

SleepMaker has a wide range of different sized mattresses - your height and weight will determine what size is best for you to make sure that neither of you feel cramped when you sleep.

Providing the best sleep for your growing child

The needs of children and teenagers change as they grow and sometimes their bed size needs to change as well. Most children start out on a single mattress, but as they grow it is important not to forget that you can upsize them into a King Single, Long Single or Double mattress.

Pop-Up beds can also be a good option for kids; they give you a King Single for your child to sleep in and a spare bed you can roll out from underneath whenever you need.
